Soy milk before a year of age

This post is a response to Tony regarding soy milk. The recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics is that babies under one year of age receive breast milk (preferably) or infant formula so that they receive the nutrients they need. While soy milk is a fine alternative to cow's milk after one year of age, it is not an acceptable alternative to breast or infant formula in kiddos under a year.

Hope that clarifies it for you. Thanks for writing in.

New organic baby formula brands debut

Organic_canDue to popular demand, Similac Advance is adding an organic baby formula to its product line. Although there is no proof that organic formula is any healthier than the regular stuff, Ross formula company is offering up a powdered formula that is USDA certified organic, that includes fatty acids, DHA and ARA.

Pg_nwp_pbm_baby_formula_520x233Walmart also has their own version of organic baby formula, called Parent's Choice.

Baby fat or fat babies?

A recent study published in the journal, Obesity, looked at the trends inBaby_buddha infant and preschoolers’ body weights for the past 20 years. It appears that even babies may be following the same troubling obesity trends as the rest of us.

So, what’s a parent to do? Send their baby to Weight Watchers? Nope. Kids under age two need more fat in their diets than we do to feed their growing brains.

What you should do is learn your baby’s hunger cues. Feed your baby when he is really hungry and don’t just feed him to pacify him.
